“you have a wife, you were almost seduced by the kidnapping sisters, and you fall for actresses you dream of. How did Barnaby break through all this straightness?”

… Isn’t that kind of a weird question?

I… uh… with Bunny… Mmm…

Che. Bunny’s better at these questions than I am.

Let me… try from the beginning.

I fell in love with Tomoe when we were still in high school. She was… really smart and … beautiful… and always so… sure of herself. It wasn’t hard. Sometimes I still wonder how I got so lucky…

But, ah, I didn’t fall in love with women… exactly. It was Tomoe. That doesn’t mean there aren’t… things - traits? I like, though… Eheh. That kidnapper had nice legs, don’t get me wrong, but - ah I wasn’t seduced… exactly…

*cough* Anyway…!

When it comes to Bunny… it’s pretty much the same thing, eh? He’s smart and confident and has legs that go on for miles - Er

So anyway, it’s not like I go looking or anything and according to Bunny I actually kind of suck at knowing when I’m flirting… or something. Both of my relationships kinda just… happened - I’ve been incredibly lucky they were both stubborn enough to tell me they were even interested…

Ah, did that answer your question?

(( OOC: Assuming positive intent here, this is actually a question I can understand coming up. Kotetsu’s not so good with explaining himself, though, so I’m going to answer too. Sexuality isn’t as straightforward of a topic as I think we’d like to believe and while we live in a predominately hetero-oriented society, that doesn’t mean most people are heterosexual or even heteronormative. Kotetsu certainly isn’t, but it is the society he grew up in, so that’s how he knows to relate to people.

Referring back to my brief rant on his humanity, Kotetsu really comes off as a lover. Just, in general, he really cares about people on a personal level. And that combined with being brought up expecting to build a family, it’s natural for him to migrate towards women. The only part he’s actually been heteronormative about, however, is being the breadwinner (as far as we know, and frankly it’s entirely possible Tomoe had at least intended to work until she got sick. Even conservative estimates give her 5-6 years before Kaede is born to either go to school and/or work). From what we’ve seen in his relationship with his mother (strong female figure) and how, even when Tomoe is sick, he’s still turning to her for guidance, he doesn’t seem to be particularly caught up in the rest of the traditional male/female expectations.

And without getting into a more involved dissertation, Barnaby has all the traits he’s been shown to be interested in. Tomoe, as per the drama CD, is rather type A, driven, smart, confident… And what we’ve seen of how she looks - not that much shorter than Kotetsu, so tall, lean, long hair, features are more delicate but not necessarily softer, etc… By otaku terminology she’s a tsundere version of the nadeshiko sort of ideal. The kidnappers were also aggressive, confident individuals - and the part Kotetsu took pause with was the leg pointed straight up at him - long, lean and flexible.

Now look at Barnaby. He matches all of the above both personality-wise and physically speaking. The fact that he’s male is more or less secondary. Although I would agree that Kotetsu never would have established a relationship with him on his own, that owes more to it simply never occurring to him than any real preference in the matter. He looks at the person, not the gender (or the sex). That should be clear enough what with how comfortable he is with Nathan

In short? I don’t believe Kotetsu was ever heterosexual to begin with. He’s pansexual and always has been. ))
